Advanced Chemistry for Optical Monomers
ACOMON is an Italian company founded in November 2007 and since 2011 affiliated to the Japanese group Mitsui Chemicals Inc.
ACOMON is the acronym of "Advanced Chemicals for Optical Monomers" and the company was born with the sale of the business "production of monomers for ophthalmic lenses and sunglasses" by the American multinational Chemtura.
ACOMON is world leader for the production of these monomers with the production plant in Ravenna.
The plant produces optical monomers of the allyl carbonate family and sold under the trade name RAV7©; these monomers are then used for the production of lenses for eyeglasses and sunglasses, photographic filters, plates and protective screens.
Optical monomers are "building blocks" which, once bonded to each other with a "polymerization" process, make it possible to produce plastic materials with excellent mechanical and optical properties..
The Research and Development group operates in the Ravenna unit which, using innovative technology, has developed a new material (RAVolution©) with highly advanced physical-mechanical and optical properties.
Currently in the ACOMON plant in Ravenna about 50 people are employed as direct staff. The company is certified ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and adheres to all environmental protocols promoted in the area of the Chemical District of Ravenna.
